Texas sent 200 of their National Guard troops to deal with the growing anti-immigration threats in Chicago.
According to Fox News, the troops made it to Illinois on Tuesday, for the purpose of defending government property and personnel as anti-ICE movements continue to grow. The Pentagon stated that the guards are there to “protect federal functions, personnel and property.”

It is notable that nearly a dozen people have already been arrested near the ICE facility in Broadview. This decision to move in National Guard troops comes after anti-immigration protests have continued for days and federal agents were “rammed and boxed in by 10 cars,” as Fox reported.
On X, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott wrote, “he elite Texas National Guard are on the ground and ready to go. They are putting America first by ensuring that the federal government can safely enforce federal law.”

However, the mayor of Chicago, Brandon Johnson, is livid about the troops’ presence, stating that he feels this is “”illegal, unconstitutional, dangerous and wrong.” He also said that “The Trump administration must end the war on Chicago…The Trump administration must end this war against Americans. The Trump administration must end its attempt to dismantle our democracy.”
On Truth Social, President Trump wrote, “MAKE CHICAGO SAFE AGAIN!” In a separate post he also said, “Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers! Governor Pritzker also!”
This deployment of troops comes as anti-ICE rhetoric and protests continue to ramp up across the country, including a deadly shooting that occurred at a Dallas ICE facility.
