Police say a man found dead in a nature park was a 77-year-old retired pastor named Russell Larkin.
Kayakers found a dead body at Great Falls Park in Virginia, on Saturday, Aug. 24, according to police. The Fairfax County Police Department had reported Larkin missing and searched the Potomac River between Sandy Landing and Rocky Island.
Larkin was pastor of Chesterbrook United Methodist Church in McLean, Virginia, from 2011 to 2016, according to the church’s current pastor. The pastor says Larkin was “loved, respected and was a big part of keeping that church open when it faced some hard times,” according to Fox 5.
Larkin’s wife, Sophia, says her husband was devoted to helping people in need. He felt especially passionate about helping undocumented immigrants.
