When Makayla Castro fell nearly 100 feet last week, fellow hikers knew immediately what would save her life: Prayer.
The 18-year-old, who is a student at Grand Canyon University, should be dead after plummeting 100 feet while climbing Camelback Mountain.
“It’s a miracle at that point, every day is a miracle, we’ve had some rough days,” her father, Larry Castro, said.
Yet family and friends know prayer can keep her alive.
“We have so many people praying for her, and we believe in the power of prayer,” Makayla’s mom, Allison Castro, said. “It’s gotten us this far.”
Makayla Castro remains in a medically induced coma. Crowdfunding has raised more than $25,000 to cover the family’s medical expense.

She is in very critical condition now at the hospital with multiple injuries and head trauma. Her family has remarkable Faith and they know God will restore their precious girl to health again. In addition to finances, the online community is blessing the family with prayer.
“Our daughter was in a similar rock-climbing accident two years ago. We experienced the miracle of prayer from so many people. We will pray fervently for your daughter. God’s blessings and courage to you all,” wrote one commenter.
Another posted: “My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May God keep his healing hands on Makayla. May he fill her with his strength. May He also fill you with his strength.”
