The music world is mourning the loss of John Lodge, the cherished bassist and co-lead vocalist of The Moody Blues, who passed away at the age of 82. Known for his musical genius, humble character and unwavering faith, Lodge’s life touched millions both on and off the stage.

Born in Birmingham, England, Lodge joined The Moody Blues in 1966, quickly becoming a central figure in the band’s distinctive sound. His melodic bass lines and soulful vocals helped shape timeless classics such as “Nights in White Satin,” “Question,” and “Isn’t Life Strange.” Beyond individual songs, Lodge played a pivotal role in Days of Future Passed, a groundbreaking album widely recognized as one of rock music’s first concept albums, blending classical orchestration with rock.


Over decades of recording and touring, Lodge contributed to several other iconic Moody Blues albums, including “In Search of the Lost Chord,” “On the Threshold of a Dream,” and “Seventh Sojourn.” His contributions helped define the band’s legacy and influence generations of musicians. In recognition of their lasting impact, Lodge and his bandmates were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.

While his musical accomplishments were monumental, Lodge’s life was also marked by deep faith and devotion to family. His loved ones described him as a “massive-hearted man,” whose first priorities were his wife, Kirsten, and their children, followed closely by music and his faith. An Evangelical Christian, Lodge openly credited God for keeping him grounded and helping him navigate the pressures and temptations of the music industry.

In their final statement, his family paid tribute to his enduring love and spiritual integrity, quoting his signature sign-off: “Thank you for keeping the faith.” These words encapsulate a man whose life radiated hope, encouragement, and a steadfast devotion to God.

Lodge’s passing comes shortly after the death of fellow Moody Blues member Mike Pinder, marking the end of an era for one of rock music’s most influential bands. Yet, his legacy—rooted in extraordinary talent, humility and faith—will continue to resonate through the music he helped create and the lives he touched with his character and conviction.
