A tragic accident at New York’s LaGuardia Airport has left two pilots dead and dozens injured after an Air Canada Express aircraft collided with a fire truck during landing.

According to the New York Post, the regional jet, identified as a CRJ-900 arriving from Montreal, was carrying 72 passengers and four crew members when the incident occurred late Sunday night. The collision occurred on the runway as the plane was coming in, resulting in severe damage to the aircraft’s front section.

Both the pilot and co-pilot, who were positioned in the cockpit at the time of impact, lost their lives. NBC News via Yahoo also confirmed their deaths, noting that they were the only fatalities reported in the crash.

Initial reports cited by the New York Post suggest that a breakdown in communication may have played a role, with both the aircraft and the emergency vehicle cleared to use the runway simultaneously.

The result was a violent collision that prompted an immediate emergency response and temporarily shut down airport operations.

Dozens Injured, Many Hospitalized

In the aftermath, approximately 40 individuals were transported to nearby hospitals, according to NBC News. Those injured included passengers, crew members and emergency responders.

While many of the injuries were described as not life-threatening, several individuals required continued medical care, highlighting the seriousness of the crash.

Despite the impact, most of the passengers on board survived—an outcome that underscores both the intensity of the collision and the narrow margin between life and death in such situations.

A Time to Pray

Now is the time to lift up the families of the two pilots who lost their lives, asking God to bring comfort in their grief and peace in the midst of sorrow.

We should also pray for those who were injured—that healing would come quickly, that pain would subside and that each person affected would experience strength and restoration.

In moments like these, we are reminded that prayer is not a last resort—it is our first response.
