Two different lawsuits alleging negligence on the part of Camp Mystic have been filed by the families of children and counselors who were killed in tragic floodwaters at the site back in July.

According to NBC News, family members of two counselors and six girls who passed away during the flood are suing the camp owners along with others. The lawsuit alleges that the camp was located in a flash flood zone. Attorneys for the plaintiffs stated, “Camp Mystic has long operated in a high-risk flood zone…the camp failed to adopt legally required evacuation plans, ignored repeated weather warnings, and implemented unsafe policies.”
The lawsuit further claims that “…the Camp chose to direct its groundskeepers to spend over an hour evacuating camp equipment, not its campers and counselors.”
On the other hand, Camp Mystic’s lawyer, Jeff Ray, said that these lawsuits have “misinformation” within them.
“We intend to demonstrate and prove that this sudden surge of floodwaters far exceeded any previous flood in the area by several magnitudes…” Ray said.
