A statue of a Hindu god has been unveiled in Sugar Land, Texas, near Houston.
The “Statue of Union” was released on August 18 at the Sri Ashtalakshmi Hindu Temple.
According to the statue’s website, the statue is 89.7 feet tall, the third-tallest statue in the United States. It depicts the god Lord Hanuman, a representation of “strength, devotion and selfless service.”
“The Statue of Union is about creating a spiritual epicenter where hearts find solace, minds find peace and souls find a path to transcendence,” the website adds. “Let’s bring the vision of North America’s tallest Hanuman Statue to life, and together, let’s continue to create a world filled with love, peace and devotion.”

The statue is depicted with the head and tail of a monkey.
Houston also hosts a statue honoring abortion.
The University of Houston canceled the opening ceremony of the demonic statue earlier this year.
“Witness,” as the statue is called, “represents an 18-foot golden female figure with arms and legs resembling intertwined roots. She is literally ungrounded, floating and resisting permanence, as she is part of a diaspora whose home is where she chooses,” according to Public Art University of Houston System (USH).

Artist Shahzia Sikander said the statue stems from the “recent focus on reproductive rights” in the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. “In the process, is the dismissal, too, of the indefatigable spirit of women who have been collectively fighting for their right to their own bodies over generations.”
“However, the enduring power lies with the people who step into and remain in the fight for equality. That spirit and grit is what I want to capture in both the sculptures.”
