Conservative and Christian activist Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck Wednesday during a speaking event at Utah Valley University, sending shockwaves through political circles and prompting swift condemnations of political violence.
The incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. local time in the Sorensen Center courtyard on the university’s campus in Orem, about 40 miles south of Salt Lake City. Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, was about 20 minutes into a question-and-answer session as part of his “American Comeback Tour” when a gun was fired from a nearby campus building approximately 200 yards away, according to witnesses and university officials.

Kirk recoiled, slumped in his seat and began bleeding from the neck, eyewitnesses said. This has been confirmed by graphic video footage of the incident occurring in real time circulating on social media. He was immediately evacuated by his security team and transported to a hospital.
Turning Point USA spokesperson Aubrey Laitsch confirmed the shooting, saying Kirk was hospitalized but providing no further details on his condition.

CNBC reported a statement from the university: “What we know currently is that Charlie Kirk was about 20 minutes into his presentation, when we heard shots fired from a nearby building and to the best of our knowledge he was hit and taken with his security team away from the premises, and the courtyard was cleared.”
The shooting has drawn responses from world leaders and prominent figures. President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth each issued calls for prayer on Kirk’s behalf.
