Calling All Urban Churches

Inform-UrbanChurches

A newly formed ministry coalition believes it’s time for urban churches in the U.S. to envision a needy world beyond the city.

The International Communion of Evangelical Churches (ICEC), founded by Bishop Harry Jackson, hopes to “answer the international cry for urban churches to participate in both evangelism and community transformation” by creating a structure for church planting, foreign missions and societal impact. The group’s efforts will start with the U.S. but eventually reach worldwide.

ICEC’s founding members are dedicated to achieving a balance between the church’s “foundational work”—evangelism with discipleship—and its “prophetic work”—speaking out nationally on matters of public policy.

“ICEC believes that America needs a Third Great Awakening in which the indigenous church of America returns to its biblical design,” said Jackson, president of High Impact Leadership Coalition and pastor of New Hope Christian Church in Washington, D.C. “[Louis] Farrakhan is right about one thing: Somebody needs to repent. The clergy need to lead the way to renewing America by repenting and changing their personal and moral direction.”
