Morris admitted to the five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child. He was given a ten-year suspended sentence, with only the first six months served in jail. Morris will also be required to pay a total $250,000 in restitution and register as a sex offender.
Cindy Clemishire, the woman who was Morris’ alleged victim, was in the courtroom when he pleaded guilty. Clemishire claims that Morris began abusing her when she was only 12-years-old.
As WFAA reported, Clemishire made a statement on Morris’ plea.
Today justice has finally been served, and the man who manipulated, groomed and abused me as a 12-year-old girl is finally going to be behind bars…My hope is that many victims hear my story, and it can help lift their shame and allow them to speak up. I hope that laws continue to change and new ones are written so children and victims’ rights are better protected. I hope that people understand the only way to stop child sexual abuse is to speak up when it happens or is suspected.
