Rabbi Jason Sobel, a Messianic Jewish teacher, is praising The Chosen for its powerful and authentic portrayal of Jesus. Unlike many past depictions, which present Jesus as distant or overly Westernized, the series shows him as real, relatable and deeply human—someone people, including children, were drawn to. Sobel highlights how the show captures Jesus’ true Jewish identity, bringing him to life in the culture and faith he actually lived in.

More than just good storytelling, Sobel believes this authenticity carries spiritual significance. He explains that for a great spiritual revival to come, Christians need to reconnect with the Jewish roots of their faith. By understanding Jesus in his original context, Sobel says viewers can know him more fully—as both the Messiah and a friend who walks closely with them.

“He’s the Word that becomes flesh; He became human,” Sobel says. “We want to see His humanity…I think that’s one of the reasons why people love Jonathan’s (Roumie) portrayal of Jesus. He is a relatable, loveable, likeable, real portrayal of Jesus.”
