Author Tim Keller says it’s very dangerous to believe that just because you’re a Christian, God won’t let anything bad happen to you. Rather, we must rest in the fact that God works all things out for our good (Rom. 8:28).
“If the devil can get a Christian to believe that now that I’m a Christian, God will not let any really big, bad things happen to me—if you believe that, and really bad things will happen to you, then you’re going to pull back from God,” Keller says. “You’re going to say that promise didn’t work, and that’s exactly what Satan wants. …
“If there’s anything in your life that’s more important to you than God, whether it’s your career, whether it’s a child—you are not safe at all, because circumstances can come and threaten that thing or take that thing away, and then you don’t have a life left. You don’t have a self left. You don’t have a meaning in life left.”
