How the Tree of Life in Genesis Is Connected to Jesus’ Cross

Taking us on a journey from the tree of life in the book of Genesis to how it’s related to the burning bush in Exodus, the golden calf idols and Jesus dying on a tree (cross), the Bible Project’s new video is sure to impress. Titled Tree of Life, it’s aglow with various representations of God’s mercy and love in both Old and New Testaments. Just as the Israelites mounted their idols on hills, Jesus died on a wooden cross (made of a tree) on a hill. Jesus represents, and is, the tree of life.

“These idols were usually placed on tall hills, like beautiful trees,” narrates co-creator Tim Mackie, referencing Exodus 32 and 2 Kings 17. “But they’re false trees of life that lead the people into self-destruction, exile and death.”
