Author and speaker Christine Caine says we need to recognize we’re born for adversity as Christians. Otherwise, when trials such as COVID-19 inevitably come, we’ll be sorely disappointed and not have the resilience to get back up and fight in the Spirit.
“What we have to know at our core is, we were born for adversity,” Caine says. “This side of the veil, there are always going to be challenges. There are always going to be obstacles. Some of us, from our mother’s womb, have those challenges. So I think when you’re in denial—when you think that this side, everything’s going to be comfortable, easy, safe, predictable—then you’re setting yourself up to really be disappointed and to really struggle with bouncing back. …
“Scripture, all the way from Genesis to Revelation, talks about the fact that this side, we are in a battle. So we need to know what the weapons of our warfare are. Jesus Himself said that in this world, you will have trials; but be of good cheer. … God didn’t allow this to happen to take us out; He allowed this to happen to reveal what is already in us.”
