House of Representatives Passes Sanctions on Iran

In an overwhelming show of support, the House of Representatives passed the Iran Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act of 2009 on Tuesday.

The bill, which passed 412-12, requires “the president to report to Congress three months after the law’s enactment—and every six months thereafter—anyone who has provided Iran refined oil, helped to import oil or helped it develop its domestic refining capacity,” the examiner.com reported.

According to the legislation, companies that violate the law will be “sanctioned” and banned from participating in “foreign exchange and bank and property exchange.”

John Hagee’s pro-Israel organization, Christians United for Israel, lobbied lawmakers for months with visits to Capitol Hill, and e-mails and phone calls from thousands of Christians in support of the bill.

Said Hagee: “The bill moves next to the Senate. We will be watching this legislation closely and will let you know when we need your help to ensure that it passes the Senate by the widest possible margin. And we will continue to provide you with other opportunities to speak out against Iran’s threats and aggression.”
