Hours after the assassination of Hamas’ political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran, Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, supreme leader of Iran, has ordered Iranian forces to launch a “direct attack” against Israel, multiple sources report.

The New York Times reports that Khamenei delivered the directive at an emergency meeting of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council not long after the announcement of Haniyeh’s death.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed Wednesday that a “projectile” hit the residence that housed the Hamas leader, killing Haniyeh. No other casualties were mentioned in the report.
