You Won’t Believe Why This Ex-NFL Star Sacrificed $37 Million

Jason Brown left his lucrative NFL career to feed the hungry.

Drafted in 2005 at the ripe age of 22, Jason Brown began the start of a nine-season career for the National Football League.

By 2009, the St. Louis Rams made him the highest paid center in the NFL with a $37.5 million five-year contract.

When the Rams cut him in 2012, Brown began to question his career and calling, wondering if there was more for him.

“I question how much attention is given to football,” Brown told ESPN’s Seth Wickersham. “But it’s tough. It’s a huge machine that I’m benefiting from.”

The fame given to football idols wasn’t enough for Brown, so he gave it up.

“My agent told me, ‘You’re making the biggest mistake of your life,'” Brown told CBS. “And I looked right back at him and I said, ‘No I’m not. No I’m not.'”

Brown founded First Fruits Farm to share the love of Christ and aid in hunger relief, and he says he’s finally found success.

“Not in man’s standards,” Brown tells CBS. “But in God’s eyes. … But, when I think about a life of greatness, I think about a life of service.”
