She was one of the youngest Planned Parenthood director leaders in the country.
Under Abby Johnson’s supervision, thousands of young women received abortions. Johnson even had some of her own. She told women that it was just tissue, until the moment everything changed.
“I left in October 2009 after witnessing a live ultrasound-guided abortion procedure where I saw a 13-week-old unborn baby fight and struggle for his life against the abortion instruments, and I knew then that there was humanity in the womb,” Johnson says.
During this time, Johnson had built a relationship with the Carneys, who led peaceful prayer vigils outside her clinic.
“My wife is the first person Abby told she had had an abortion, so we knew her through the fence for many years,” Shawn Carney, president of 40 Days for Life, says.
Their story is now the focus of Unplanned, which premiered over the weekend and will hit wide release March 29.
