During the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England on July 28, a giant mechanical bull with glowing red eyes was rolled out into the center of Alexander Stadium. The bull was approximately 10 meters high, and it took more than five months to build. It had been given the nickname “Raging Bull,” and it absolutely dwarfed all of the human participants that were involved in the performance.
The “hero” of the opening ceremony, a character known as Stella, calmed the creature down and then all of the human performers gathered around the giant bull and literally began to bow down and worship it. I have seen a lot of really weird things in recent years, but I have never seen anything quite like this.

“This sort of move requires serious levels of trust by the American public in its institutions,” Political Commentator Ben Shapiro tweeted. Shapiro continued to say, “That trust no longer exists. If those institutions fail yet again, and target the leader of Joe Biden’s political opposition in doing so, this looks like banana republic stuff.”
There are several parts of the “Inflation Reduction Act” that have raised concern among conservatives and economic strategists alike. According to the Penn Wharton Budget Model, it will likely not impact inflation; green and renewable energy sources are having billions of dollars poured into them while gas prices are almost twice as high as when President Biden took office, but perhaps most unnerving is the large investment into the IRS.

This past weekend I preached at The Roads Church, a charismatic congregation located in the tiny town of Norris City, Illinois. Located amid cornfields, the population is only 1,325, but almost that many people visit the church on weekends. They come from all over southern Illinois and Indiana, some driving an hour because the Holy Spirit is doing miracles there.
It’s thrilling to see the spiritual hunger of the people in Norris City. Every morning members of the church gather to pray for God’s presence to visit their region, and Pastor Chad Everett and his team have planted two satellite congregations in Mount Carmel (45 miles away) and Carlinville (155 miles away) because people in those towns want more of the Holy Spirit.
On Sunday, I preached from 1 Kings 18, when Elijah called down fire from heaven and prayed for an end to a three-year drought. I reminded everyone that when things grow spiritually dark, as they did during the reign of Ahab and Jezebel, God is willing to bring a holy interruption. The Lord didn’t allow the prophets of Baal to defeat Israel; He sent a visible demonstration of His power that caused everyone to fall on their faces and say, “The Lord, He is God” (1 Kings 18:39.) {eoa}
