Sometimes campaign promises are clearly spoken — “Read my lips, no new taxes” — but sometimes they are part of a candidate’s language and behavior. In Nashua, New Hampshire, Hillary Clinton promised that, if she’s elected, she will continue the Clinton family’s fabulously tortured relationship with the truth and the English language. During a question-and-answer session on Tuesday, an audience member asked her if she will support the Keystone XL pipeline, an oil conduit that could put Americans back to work while making America less dependent on Middle Eastern oil. He asked her to answer “yes or no.” Her response began, “Well.” (Three seconds silence.) “As you know.” (Four more seconds silence.) She then launches into a 30-second non-answer that basically says, since she is knowledgeable about the deal, she will not reveal any opinion on it and will leave the decision completely up to President Obama. She concluded, “If it is undecided when I become president, I will answer your question.” Like ObamaCare, you have to elect Hillary to find out what she believes. Proverbs 29:12 says, “If a ruler pays attention to lies, all his servants become wicked.” The Pulpit Commentary briefly summarizes that if the ruler “is willing to be deceived, and does not care to hear the truth,” then “his servants flatter and lie to him, and the whole atmosphere is charged with unreality and deceit.” Americans forget; under the Constitution, we voters are the rulers. Will we tolerate another four or eight years of presidential deceit?
