Ester Hobbes has enjoyed a wonderful life with her loving husband, Franklin. But when he dies from a heart attack, Ester is left to pick up the pieces Franklin left behind. A bad business deal he made leaves her with little in the way of assets, except for a rental property in Georgia.
When Ester leaves her beloved Chicago and arrives in the rural South, she discovers that her house is home to Tony and Ramona and five foster children. It’s certainly not been easy on the couple, who hardly have enough to live on and are trying hard to provide for their troubled children. The last thing they want is for their landlord to be under foot, and they are especially distraught when they discover that Ester’s lawyer has listed the house for sale.
The group gets off to a shaky start, but Ester’s friendliness softens the hearts of the kids and their parents. The friendship is put to the test when a developer buys the house. Ester asks God for help, but there might not be enough time for her and her new family to save their home.
This story shows how we are at our best when we are demonstrating Christ’s love and compassion to those desperately in need.
