Grand Design is the hottest Christian rock band around, and lead singer Johnny C (Kevin Max) is a rising star. For a while he successfully leads a double life-proclaiming Jesus onstage but choosing a sinful lifestyle offstage. Even when his wife leaves with their daughter and he’s fired from the band, Johnny C doesn’t grasp why he needs to change.
His mentor, Proff (Kerry Livgren) and a homeless man named Popeye (Tom Wright), try to help Johnny C make the right choices. But is Johnny C willing to turn his life around or will selfishness drive him to continually alienate his faith, family and friends?
Writer and director Daniel Millican believes this story had to be told. “This movie was made for the church,” he explains. “I find the closer I pull to Jesus, slowly the masks come off and masquerades end. Hopefully [The Imposter] will help viewers choose to find their identity in Jesus.”
