Study Reveals Something Unique Among Assemblies of God Churches

Fifty percent of those who attend an Assembly of God are considered “highly involved,” according to a new Pew Research study.

Members who are highly involved attend a service at least weekly along with weekly or monthly Bible study or small group attendance, the report reads.

Superintendent George O. Wood attributes AG’s comparative success to the influence of the Holy Spirit.

“Our Pentecostal faith emphasizes the Holy Spirit’s empowerment of all believers—not just a special few,” Wood tells PE News. “It’s encouraging to see our belief match our practice in Pew’s report.”

In the Pew report, AG, which has a high involvement rate of 50 percent, fell after Mormons (67 percent), Jehovah’s Witness (64 percent) and Church of God (53 percent). AG ranked higher than the Southern Baptist Convention (44 percent), Presbyterian Churches in America (32 percent), Presbyterian Church USA (31 percent) and the United Methodist Church (27 percent).
