Spiritual Warfare General Asks, ‘What Does the Bible Really Say About the Unborn?’

Many years ago, we had a pastor that would always say: “What does the Bible say about it?” Viewing the current pollical landscape, voting record and listening to the ongoing narrative, even among Christians, I have to ask myself … “Isn’t it time to start asking that question again?”

Over the years, God has given me scripture after scripture dealing with pre-born babies. I would like to take the time to provide you with some of them, along with some side notes the Holy Spirit gave me. This will make it clear what the Bible does say about God’s little children that have no voice.

Do we really understand that it is God, our Father in heaven, that actually forms us in our mother’s womb and created us for His glory? Isaiah 43:7 declares “Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My Glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” In Isaiah 44:2 and v 24 it says that it was our Lord that formed us from the womb. Job, in Job 9:8 says of God that “Your hands have made me and fashioned me.”

Job 34:19 reflects that “…they [we] are all the work of His hands.” I just love what Psalm 71:6 says: “By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb.” Do we really comprehend that we do not belong to ourselves or anyone else; that we belong to God as it was He who made us? “Know that the Lord, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves” (Ps. 100:3).

And David, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit (2 Pet. 1:21; 2 Tim. 3:16) speaking of God in Psalm 119:73 that “Your hands have made me and fashioned me;” Isaiah declares: “The Lord has called me from the womb” in Isaiah 49:1; and in verse 5, it states “… Who formed me from the womb to be His servant…” God told the prophet Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you;” And of course a favorite to many: “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb” (Ps. 139:13).

God cares for those that do not have a helper, as reflected in Job 29:12: Because I delivered the poor who cried out, the fatherless, and the one who had no helper.” And Psalm 72:12 states: “For He will deliver the needy when he cries, the poor also, and him who has no helper.”

When I first read these, the Holy Spirit asked me, “Who has no helper more that an unwanted unborn baby? Whom is more needy when he cries than an unwanted child in his mother’s womb?” The wisdom in Proverbs 14:31 tells us, “He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, but he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.” We must have mercy on every unborn child, as God hears the cry for help of the unborn (Isa. 5:7).

Father God gives us a warning in Job 34:27-28 that Because they turned back from Him, and would not consider any of His ways, so that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him; For He hears the cry of the afflicted.” And again, in Psalm 140:12, we read, “I know that the Lord will maintain [defend] the cause of the afflicted…” May I ask, where does the cries of the afflicted come from more than a child, a human being, being aborted?

Are we as concerned with the fatherless (in and outside the womb) as our Father in heaven is? We read in Psalm 10:14 and verses 17 and 18 that God is the helper of the fatherless … to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may oppress no more.

God calls us to defend the fatherless, afflicted and needy in Psalm 82:3-4. Psalm 103:6 tells us that the Lord does justice for all who are oppressed. In Isaiah 1:17, we are told to “rebuke the oppressor and defend the fatherless.” Ponder the above Scriptures highlighting the words “fatherless,” “oppressed,” “afflicted” and “needy” in relation to a precious unwanted, unborn baby.

I pray we all understand that God hates (yes “hates”) the shedding of innocent blood (Prov. 6:16-19) and what blood is more innocent than the blood of an aborted child?

For me, a very enlightening scripture is found in Psalm 102:19-20. It says, “For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary; From heaven, the Lord viewed the earth, to hear the groaning of the prisoner, to release those appointed to death.”

When I read this, I heard the Holy Spirit whisper: “Whom is more of a prisoner appointed to death than an unwanted baby scheduled for abortion?” We are also told in Proverbs 31:8-9 to “Open your mouth for the speechless, in the cause of all who are appointed to die. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.”

Again, who is more voiceless than those who have no voice, such as an unwanted baby in the womb? Please stop to ponder and think through these two scriptures.

In Isaiah 59:4-16, we read; “No one calls for justice, nor does any plead for truth. They trust in empty words and speak lies; They conceive evil and bring forth iniquity. They hatch vipers’ eggs and weave the spider’s web; He who eats of their eggs dies, and from that which is crushed a viper breaks out. Their webs will not become garments, nor will they cover themselves with their works; Their works are works of iniquity, And the act of violence is in their hands. Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; Their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; Wasting and destruction are in their paths. The way of peace they have not known, and there is no justice in their ways; They have made themselves crooked paths; Whoever takes that way shall not know peace. Therefore, justice is far from us, nor does righteousness overtake us; We look for light, but there is darkness! For brightness, but we walk in blackness! We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes; We stumble at noonday as at twilight; We are as dead men in desolate places. We all growl like bears, and moan sadly like doves; We look for justice, but there is none; For salvation, but it is far from us. For our transgressions are multiplied before You, and our sins testify against us; For our transgressions are with us, and as for our iniquities, we know them: In transgressing and lying against the Lord, and departing from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood. Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands afar off; For truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. So, truth fails, and he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the Lord saw it, and it displeased Him That there was no justice. He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore, His own arm brought salvation for Him; and His own righteousness, it sustained Him.”

Will we be the intercessor that cries out night and day, calling for justice and righteousness and pleading for truth?

We are warned in Isaiah 5:20, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!”

Do we really understand that children are a heritage from the Lord (Ps. 127:3); that there is a unique and special joy to a mother when a human being has been born into the world (John 16:21)? Our Father, for every child, unborn and born, gently picks them up and sits them on His lap, looking at them in the eye and whispering that they are His beloved (I John 4:11; Rom. 1:7; 12:19; I John 4:7; Phil. 4:1; Col. 3:12; I Thess. 1:4); that He tells them that He delights in them (Ps. 44:3) that he takes pleasure in them (Ps. 147:11; 149:4); that He calls them by name and tells them they are His (Isa. 43:1) and then speaks softly that He loves them and they are precious in His sight (Isa. 43:4); that He is near them (Ps. 145:18); that He has written their name on His hand (Isa. 49:16); that He preserves them (Ps. 145:20); that He is for them (Ps. 118:7; 56:9); that He is on their side (Ps. 118:6); that He loves them (Isa. 43:4); that He is with them (Isa. 43:5); that He has chosen them (Isa. 43:10); that He chose them and He appointed them (John 15:16); that He really does love them (John 16:27); that He loves them as much as He loves His only begotten Son, Jesus (John 17:23)? {eoa}
