The demonic realm is alive and active. Every day the number of people exploring and practicing New Age, Wicca, witchcraft and Satanism is growing.
In fact, these are some of the fastest-growing religions and practices. We hear in the news daily about evil happenings such as mass shootings, persecution and gross murders where we know evil forces drive these actions.
However, when it comes to the pagan celebration of Halloween, we somehow do not see it as having the same demonic and evil impact of destruction as those other tragedies. The effects of Halloween and human sacrifices are just as real. However, authorities—and the news media—simply don’t report them.
We mask Halloween as a time for our children to have fun, dress up and collect candy. We ignore the evil roots of Halloween that the world has created and the demonic has set forth. Churches even go as far as to host alternative events like trunk-or-treating.
We further disguise it in our churches by hosting evangelical harvest fests, but we don’t open our mouths to share Jesus. We simply allow them to play games and hand out candy, and hope they will see Christ through our actions. However, seeing Christ through our actions of celebrating Halloween is an oxymoron.
Witches, warlocks, Satanists and every other false religion that puts the utmost importance on this evil event are praying fervently for the month prior to Halloween. They are already starting to conjure up curses, spells, vexes and other evil practices. They are making it their assignment to destroy Christians, uproot prophetic destinies and come against the plans of God.
Why aren’t we, as Christians, on the counteroffensive of these attacks that are coming our way? The demonic realm is like a military troop being committed, organized and disciplined to their cause.
However, as a Christian, when asked even to pray aloud at a meal table with friends, all shy away with no one volunteering to pray out loud for fear the prayer will not be good enough. The attacks that come our way have a foothold in our lives and can easily penetrate our armor when we haven’t been in prayer diligently or when we aren’t fully dressed in our armor.

I once took a trip to Boulder, Colorado, to discern the spiritual atmosphere of Pearl Street Mall. They practice witchcraft activities openly on the mall streets. As I was walking through the mall, I could feel the center of the mall was highly protected and guarded by prayers, curses and whatever individuals were throwing up in the spiritual atmosphere to protect it.
What they were practicing was working, because I could feel the shift in the spiritual atmosphere and knew they were protecting something. Why, as Christians, don’t we pray that hard and diligently to protect what is ours?
I think sometimes the New Agers, Satanists and Wiccans are better at prayer and being passionate about their cause of destruction than we Christians are about the cause of Jesus. I dislike even saying that. It shouldn’t be true, but I believe sometimes it is. We can’t get people to pray and open their mouths (see my book Speak Out to learn the power of audible prayer).
Halloween is approaching and, whether we believe it or not, curses and destruction against the Christian community are going forth. How do we apprehend our enemy and the powers of darkness that come forth? We need to start praying now. We need to be praying diligently on the offensive to bind and restrict these powers of darkness.
We need to pray and fast, and to get on our face before the Lord and petition Him to send conviction to Christians who aren’t taking this seriously, and to convert and convict those in witchcraft practices to come to Jesus. We have the power within us, the Holy Spirit, to co-labor with us in prayer to combat the powers of darkness.
The question is, are we going to release that power we know is greater than the power that is in the world? {eoa}
