2008 was quite a year for Seabird with the release of their national debut ‘Til We See the Shore. Several songs were featured on TV programs such as Grey’s Anatomy, Numb3rs and Pushing Daisies, and they also won several awards, including Cincinnati Entertainment Award for Artist of the Year. Instead of resting on their early success, the piano-rocking band is releasing its sophomore album, Rocks Into Rivers.
The band was started by brothers Aaron Morgan (vocals/keys) and Ryan Morgan (guitar) and also includes Preston Lane (drums) and Brandon Weaver (bass). Of their music, Aaron Morgan says: “You always want your friends to be there for you, and in the same way, we want our music to be there with whatever you need, be it inspiration, laughter or even tears. It’s our goal to make our music as reliable as a good friend.”
The band addresses real-life issues and topics. “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful” is about a girl who believes it’s her fault her parents got a divorce. This song “is about wanting her to know the truth and letting her know she has the ability to live beyond this,” Morgan says.
Many songs are personal for Morgan as they chronicle changing roles he’s encountered recently. “Believe Me” is a promise to be the husband and father he knows he needs to be. “The Good King” is a lullaby for his daughter but is a reminder to us all that we have a good friend by our side. “Baby I’m in Love” is about his being able to see that his wife was a wonderful mother even before their daughter was born.
There is no telling what success will come this next year for Seabird, but fans will certainly enjoy listening to their new music and the poetic, thought-provoking lyrics.
