Recently I heard a voice calling me. My name was spoken gently just once and it caused me to stop and wonder, “who just called me?”
The voice sounded so familiar. The Lord knows exactly how to get our attention. He will use anyone or anything to get our attention. For Moses, it was a burning bush (Gen. 3:1-15).
I was staying at a hotel, and as I was walking off an elevator while scrolling social media, my head stayed down, fixed on my phone. I wasn’t paying attention to my direction, much less focused on where I was going. I assumed I was going in the right direction.
This assumption was faulty. I had never been to this particular hotel. I was careless in my movements toward my destination. Well, as you may have guessed it, I didn’t pay attention to the plaque on the wall that pointed out the direction of the room numbers. You know, the plaque that shows you the direction to the rooms 200-230 and rooms 230-250.
I didn’t watch out for the sign. I was distracted and focused on something else instead of the destination. However, I looked up and noticed that I was going in the wrong direction. The voice that I heard stopped me and caused me to notice that I was off course. I was then able to change my direction and reroute to my destination.
This experience reminded me of the boy Samuel in Samuel 3:1-10. Samuel was hearing God’s voice call him, and he didn’t perceive that it was God. Eli, the priest, helped Samuel to perceive that God’s voice was calling him.
How often are we distracted, loose focus and signs are given to guide us, yet we ignore them? Holy Spirit is saying, “Even as many may find themselves in new places and spaces, do not become distracted but focus on where He’s leading you by focusing on the destination and the signs I’ve already provided you. As you remain humble, I will always speak to you, find you and correct your course.”
Blessings as you navigate the terrain of what seems new with the Lord.
