Mike Huckabee Leaves the Campaign Trail to Visit Israel

Republican presidential candidate and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee departs for Israel on Tuesday to discuss the Iran nuclear deal with “a number of officials,” a campaign spokeswoman said. Huckabee, who strongly opposes the Obama administration-brokered deal, said Sunday on the CNN program State of the Union that America is “being pushed to get into a deal that gives us nothing but gives the Iranians the capacity to ultimately end up with a nuclear weapon, and that’s just insane.” Starting in 1973, Huckabee has taken “dozens and dozens” of trips to Israel, he said on the television program after announcing his latest visit. The Iran deal, he said, represents “the most dangerous situation that we face, not just for the Middle East, but for the rest of the world, in a long time. This is essentially arming and equipping a terrorist state.” This article originally appeared on JNS.org.
