Based on the series by Lois Gladys Leppard, Mandie and the Secret Tunnel chronicles Mandie’s discovery of hidden family secrets— and treasure. After her father dies, Mandie is determined to find out more about his family. Escaping her mother’s ill treatment, she sets out to find answers.
With the help of Indian friends, Mandie discovers that the childhood fairy tale her father told her hundreds of times is true. Not only does Mandie discover she has family she never knew, she also finally knows the truth about her father, his family and, ultimately, herself.
Although this film is family-friendly and offers mystery, humor and adventure, it is a bit slow-moving, and some of the acting is terribly overdone (interestingly, it wasn’t the child actors). However, Dean Jones did an excellent job in his role as Jason Bond. This film is based on the first of the 40-book series, so perhaps these movies will get better with time.
This film is not rated and is appropriate for all ages.
