Dolly Parton was raised on hellfire-and-brimstone preaching, and it’s woven through her life and her music.
“(It’s) very vivid,” Parton says. “I keep all that stuff close to my heart.”
Parton began singing in her grandfather’s church when she was young.
“He used to scare me a little bit,” she says. But the lessons echo in her music.
