Alèthès (GR): not hidden, full transparency, genuine, real, unconcealed. In Scripture, this word is often used in conjunction with legal testimony—an image that was used to confirm the deity of Christ, for Jesus was proven true based on the testimony of God Himself, as referenced in John 5:31-32: “If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true. There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true.”
In fact, all we know about God rests on the fact that he is alèthès—He is true, consistent and faithful all the time. Believers should seek the same kind of truth and transparency in their lives, freely displaying the glory of God by the way that they live.
