Ecumenical Prayer Service Supports SCOTUS Nominee Brett Kavanaugh

Faith & Action and Liberty Counsel hosted an ecumenical prayer service yesterday for SCOTUS Nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh and his family at the chapel inside the United Methodist Building in Washington, D.C. Several non-profit organizations and ministries also attended this non-partisan, apolitical, religious service in the Simpson Chapel, which is located between the U.S. Senate office buildings, where the confirmation hearings will be held, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mat Staver gave the opening remarks. Other Liberty Counsel, Faith & Action and pastoral leaders prayed and spoke Scriptures for Judge Kavanaugh and his family, President Trump and Vice President Pence, the Supreme Court justices, the Senate and the nation.

White House and Senate rules prohibit a nominee from communicating with or visibly keeping company with any individuals or groups outside the immediate confirmation process. Therefore, Judge Kavanaugh and his family were not permitted to be present at this service.

Since it is a stressful time for every SCOTUS nominee, this service gave pastoral support for a family undergoing a unique ordeal at this time in American history. Prayers for Judge Kavanaugh, his family and closest associates seem particularly pertinent before his confirmation hearing, which is expected to begin in September or October.

Should Judge Kavanaugh be confirmed, Faith & Action and Liberty Counsel will inform him that this prayer service was conducted on his behalf and present him with a signed copy of the program (of all participants) and a photo.

“It was such an honor to host and participate in this special prayer service for Judge Kavanaugh, his family and our nation’s leaders,” Staver says. “As Christians, we must continue to make a spiritual imprint on this country, and I believe this opportunity to pray where these leaders make decisions for this country was significant.” {eoa}
