Donald Trump told GQ magazine there’s a “pretty good” chance he’ll be in heaven after he dies.
In the candid back-and-forth with correspondent Chris Heath, the Republican says not only is there a heaven, it’s what he’s been working for.
When asked point-blank if he thinks he’ll be going to heaven, Trump said, “I hope so. That’s what I strive for,” then immediately followed that up by saying his efforts have been going “pretty good.”
Many have questioned Trump’s faith throughout the pre-election cycle approaching the primaries, but many in the Christian community rally around the businessman-turned-politician.
Kenneth Copeland, Paula White and David Jeremiah were among a handful of prominent Christians who laid hands on Trump earlier this year.
“No man can be successful as president of the United States without Your wisdom. And so we ask You today to give this man Your wisdom, boldly. Make sure and certain that he hears. Manifest Yourself to him,” Copeland prayed. “And we thank You and praise You for a bold man, a strong man and an obedient man.”
Jeremiah, meanwhile, asked for the Lord to raise up “strong African-Americans” to stand with Trump.
However, just because Trump woos evangelicals doesn’t guarantee his heavenly admission.
Biblically, Romans 10:13 says that anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved. However, it also says in Matthew 19:24 that it is easier for a camel to enter the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
