According to Wilkinson, his latest book is the “flip side” of The Prayer of Jabez, which detailed praying in four areas of an individual’s life. You Were Born for This, he says, takes a more outward approach, focusing mainly on serving people and being a vessel for God to make a difference in others’ lives.
“It’s taking The Prayer of Jabez to the miracle power,” he says. “It’s about, ‘How do I serve other people in such a way that God shows up?'”
Wilkinson presents three ways God often delivers miracles: through Himself, through His angels and through “His normal way of delivering miracles”—other people.
“The average person doesn’t believe that they can be used in delivering miracles to people,” he says. “When they realize it doesn’t have to be so complicated or totally unpredictable, but you can follow God’s ways, then you’re going to be able to watch a miracle take place.”
Although the person receiving a miracle needs to first recognize it is just that—a miracle—Wilkinson believes the events surrounding the miraculous don’t always have to be supernatural in nature. He points specifically to one of Jesus’ most popular miracles, the disciples’ big catch of fish.
“Every single list of miracles includes that as a miracle, yet it didn’t break a law of nature,” he says.
