Throughout my teens, twenties and early thirties, I was addicted to achievement. Part of it was due to my upbringing with parents who were keen on the pursuit of academic excellence (and my desire to please them) but I also really enjoyed the satisfaction of seeing a goal set and achieved. After all, I’m a strategist by God’s design.
Without firmly rooted intimacy with Jesus Christ, the desire to achieve can easily become an idol. In Christ, achievement can be purified and aligned with God’s heart and purposes for your life. In Christ, achievements can be multiplied by the power of His grace and you experience more than you could ever ask or think. That has become my own testimony since I exchanged my plans for His after a series of radical encounters with the love of God. My life and business have never been the same.
I love the testimony of Teresa Kwon, founder and CEO of Bom Bakeshop in Austin, Texas, and the managing director of Daringly Great Leadership.
Teresa never thought she’d be in the food business (she swore it off after experiencing it as a child with her family’s businesses) but in 2020, God spoke to her heart and told her that she needed to break up with achievement and get back to Him. She slowed down on her consultancy work as He instructed and, from that season, birthed a new business in partnership with Him and with her husband that has been a testimony of restoration, grace and favor in so many ways.
Our willingness to yield to the voice of the Holy Spirit in our lives not only creates powerful shifts for ourselves but also in the lives of those within our spheres of influence.
Listen to this episode of The Kingdom Driven Entrepreneur podcast to hear Teresa’s story. It is a powerful example of how when God invites you into an adventure with Him, your “yes” followed by diligent and faith-filled action is the very definition of success. {eoa}
