As Live Science noted, the “Camp Hill” virus was recently discovered in Alabama. This virus is a “close relative” to both the Nipah and Hendra viruses.

This virus was found in four shrews. While the animals were caught back in 2021, there bodies and organs went under research study, and it was through these results that the Camp Hill virus was identified.
This type of virus, which is a henipavirus, could potentially be dangerous for humans as it “…can cause severe respiratory illness and a type of inflammation of the brain known as encephalitis,” according to Live Science.
This discovery comes at a time while Americans already are in an extra cautionary mode as the latest strain of bird flu is now making waves, hitting our food supply. We have seen the price of eggs skyrocket across the nation because of this. That virus also has been identified in cattle for the first time, recently, in the state of Nevada.
