Famed celebrity astrophysicist and cosmologist Neil deGrasse Tyson, an avowed agnostic, recently took to Twitter to offer a surprisingly religious view on the current presidential race.
“Who would Jesus vote for?” he tweeted. “To him walls, wealth, & torture are non-starters, so probably the Jewish New Yorker from Vermont.”
Tyson, a native New Yorker, has never shied away from controversy. His tweet certainly generated a lot of it, both from the atheist-agnostic crowd and from Christians. It has been “liked” nearly 47,000 times and retweeted nearly 33,000 times.
Some were more humorous than others.
“Oh, bless your heart,” a Twitter user who goes by the name “American Kafir” said in response. “Look at you! Caring about what someone you don’t believe in would say or do.. at ANY point in history.”
