The invention of the Great Machine has wreaked havoc on the world. It controls all the machines, and they have taken over and eradicated the human population. In the last days of humanity, however, a scientist developed a plan to help salvage civilization. His group of small creatures are still alive.
The nine are a mixed bag of personalities and strengths. No. 1 (Christopher Plummer), the group’s leader, is a strong war veteran. The kind, frail inventor is No. 2 (Martin Landau). Creatures No. 3 and No. 4 (John C. Reilly) are twins; though smart, they communicate nonverbally and usually with each other. No. 7 (Jennifer Connelly) is an independent warrior. This small tribe must find the strength to stay alive. Yet the key lies with No. 9 (Elijah Wood), who possesses the necessary leadership qualities to guide his tribe to victory. As this emerging leader seizes his opportunity, he must find a way to rally and unite his comrades so they can conquer the preying machines.
Although this is an animated film, it is rated PG-13 for scary images and violence.
