2 Biblical Concepts We Must Remember in Today’s Black Friday Chaos

Black Friday marks the traditional beginning of the Christmas shopping season, yet it has also become a concerning symbol of our nation’s materialism, says Sam Rohrer, president of the American Pastors Network (APN, AmericanPastorsNetwork.net).

The term Black Friday has been used since the 1960s, Rohrer noted. However, recent years have seen the day expand into traffic jams and even fighting. Some retailers now employ armed guards to maintain order among tense shoppers.

“As we watch the chaos of Black Friday, it reminds us of two important biblical concepts,” he said. “First, God calls us to be content with what we have. Second, we are not to love the things of this world. As He looks at us today, may we seek to live contentedly with the amazing blessings He has already provided and seek to genuinely bless the lives of others this holiday season.”

Rohrer also shares biblical insights on APN’s daily 60-second radio feature, “Stand in the Gap Minute,” heard on hundreds of stations nationwide. Rohrer and his radio co-hosts explore headline-making cultural issues on the daily, live, one-hour radio program, “Stand in the Gap Today,” as well as the weekly television program, “Stand in the Gap TV.”
