[07.09.08] During a press conference Tuesday, the family of gospel artist Timothy Wright said the Pentecostal pastor is “holding on” after a car accident that killed his wife and grandson.
Son David Wright said his father was conscious despite extensive injuries, including a broken jaw. “He can't talk,” he said, “but he can nod his head.” He knows his 14-year-old grandson, D.J., did not survive the crash but has not been told that his wife and co-pastor, Betty Wright, also died.
Wright, pastor of Grace Tabernacle Christian Center Church of God in Christ in Brooklyn, N.Y., was returning from Detroit, where he had attended his denomination's annual International Auxiliaries In Ministry Convention, when his car was struck head-on by a car traveling the wrong way on Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania. He remains in critical condition at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pa.
Danny Wright said the trip to Detroit with his grandparents was a special present for D.J., who had recently graduated from the eighth grade. “I never really let them away from us, but he wanted to go,” he said reported Newsday. He said he spoke to his son every day and had talked with him hours before the accident.
