The joy of Christmas is the joy of receiving the gift of Jesus. You can experience it by bringing the joy to another person, especially when you give a Christmas miracle to little ones who are deprived of the most important gift—love!
We came to an Ethiopian orphanage with toys and sweets for the kids. Neither games nor jokes seemed to put smiles on their sad faces.
In an attempt to connect with them, we started a game of soccer, which drew them in. They won, of course, and their eyes sparkled. As we were finishing up, I noticed their feet with the toes sticking through the holes shoes.
A little lady from Malta who ran the orphanage and looked like Mother Teresa apologized for the shoes. “They love to play soccer,” she said, “and their shoes wear out so quickly. Nobody brings us shoes.”
We ask God to heal our hearts, but sometimes our hearts need to be broken for what breaks His heart.
The broken lives and the bare feet of those kids break the heart of our Savior. Their Christmas is up to us! We have a chance to bring joy to their hearts and provide shoes that will keep them warm and will kick that soccer ball!
A pair of nice tennis shoes is just $25. There are 140 kids in the orphanage. We need $3,500 before Dec. 24 to be able to purchase the shoes for the entire orphanage! Will you be the light this Christmas for a heartbroken kid in an orphanage half across the world? Visit rfwma.org/give for more information!
