And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.-.-.-.-And he called the name of that place Bethel. —Genesis 28:16, 19
Is He your God? He is the God of the sinner. Oh, there is something wonderful about it. He is the God of the helpless. He is full of mercy. I tell you He is your God, and He is prepared to meet you exactly as He met Jacob.
Jacob had deceived in every way. He had deceived to get his birthright; to get his cattle. He was a deceiver. Truly, the devil had a big play with Jacob, but, praise God, there was one thing that Jacob knew. Jacob knew that God fulfilled His promises.
There in Bethel, God let Jacob see the ladder, and it was a wonderful ladder, for it reached from earth to heaven. He saw angels ascending and descending. I am glad that the angels began at the bottom and came to the top. It was a lovely ladder, I tell you, if they could begin at the bottom and go to the top.
Just like Jacob in prayer, we begin at the bottom and go to the top.
Bethel—the place of prayer; the place of changing conditions; the place where we start on earth and enter heaven.
Father, I come to Bethel, Thy house of prayer, to start
on earth and to climb into the heavenlies,
for I long to be with Thee. Amen.
