Abortion has become one of the biggest social and spiritual issues of our generation. These are not just groups of cells and they’re not just fetuses.
They are human beings created in God’s image. For many, many years, I have been pro-life and I’ve tried to do everything I can to help combat the killing of innocent, unborn children.
Many others are tirelessly doing the same and are on the front lines of the battle every day, including Rabbi Martin Katz, one of the founders and the Executive Vice President of Just One Life in Israel.
Just One Life works to provide a support system set up to empower each and every client of the ministry, providing them with diverse, complementary services while working to help them learn skills to overcome what often seems to be insurmountable and overwhelming challenges.
To date, Just One Life has saved nearly 20,000 babies from a gruesome and heartbreaking fate. It’s a ministry that God continues to bless because, as Rabbi Katz quotes from the Talmud, the central text of Rabbinic Judaism, “He that saves just one life has saved the world.”
Poverty, Rabbi Katz says, runs rampant in Israel, and many women believe they have no other choice but to abort a child given their circumstances. That’s where Just One Life comes in.
Pregnant women in crisis are referred to Just One Life by various social agencies and organizations. Clients often struggle with a variety of challenges associated with their pregnancies including complications due to pre-existing psychological and emotional conditions and financial difficulties.
Clients often find themselves in overwhelming circumstances and experience anxiety, fear, loneliness and helplessness.
“We help singles, and we help any person in this situation who needs our help,” Rabbi Katz told me on a recent episode of the “Strang Report.” “We are not judge and jury. Clients have come in with all issues concerning their pregnancy. I’m just God’s messenger.”
While abortion has become a huge political issue in the U.S., Rabbi Katz says Just One Life tries to “stay away from the political spectrum.” Rabbi Katz says that, like in the U.S., access to abortion is easy in Israel. However, Katz says, every woman—and literally it’s every woman—that comes to Just One Life has not terminated their pregnancy.
“Yes, every mother has kept their baby,” Rabbi Katz says. “We bat 1.000. Everyone keeps the baby, and everybody’s happy. With all the issues of poverty, with all the questions of what do I do, they are happy and the babies are bubbly. And, it gives me a lot of passion and a lot of happiness.”
Every mother has kept their baby. That’s an amazing statistic. If that happened here in the U.S., what a blessing that would be. We have so much to learn in this country because this is such a loving, supportive approach.
Just One Life supports and empowers women and families in crisis during pregnancy. Visit their website at justonelife.org for success stories and for information on every service this wonderful and godly ministry provides.
