Today, as Donald J. Trump is inaugurated in Washington, D.C., a renewed sense of excitement fills the nation. This moment marks a stunning political comeback against unprecedented opposition. Trump endured years of relentless attacks, including accusations of election interference, the Russian collusion hoax, a hostile media, FBI raids, legal battles aimed at his financial ruin and even an assassination attempt. Yet against all odds, he prevailed, securing a landslide electoral victory and, for the first time, a majority of the popular vote.

Just a year ago, few believed Trump’s return to the presidency was possible. Facing a crowded Republican primary field of 12 challengers, his chances appeared slim. But millions of Americans had grown tired of the country’s ongoing drift to the left—not just politically, but morally. Issues such as the rise of transgender athletes in women’s sports, the aggressive promotion of LGBTQ+ ideologies and declining traditional values had reached a tipping point. Many voters, even some who were not Trump supporters, recognized his leadership as a necessary course correction.

However, Trump’s victory is about more than politics. Beneath the surface lies a profound spiritual dimension. While the media focuses on political events, believers know there is a deeper battle being waged in the spiritual realm. We must recognize this moment as both a call to action and a call to prayer.

I believe Trump’s political rise, including his historic victory in 2016, is an answer to prayer. At the time, Christians across the country sought divine intervention, asking God to raise up a leader to confront the cultural and moral challenges of our age. Few could have imagined that the Lord’s answer would come in the form of a billionaire businessman with no political experience. Yet, Scripture reminds us that God often works in unexpected ways.

In my 2017 book, “God and Donald Trump,” I explored how Trump began engaging with spiritual matters in the early 2000s. He forged relationships with Christian leaders like Paula White Cain, who became a close adviser. Prophecies, such as those of the late Kim Clement, foretold the rise of a leader like Trump. Clement predicted that God would raise up someone who might not initially be a man of prayer but would grow into one. Others compared Trump to King Cyrus, a pagan ruler whom God used to restore Israel. Lance Wallnau echoed this sentiment, calling Trump a “modern-day Cyrus” who would fulfill divine purposes despite his imperfections.

Clement also prophesied that Trump would serve two terms. While some dismissed this as implausible, it has now come to pass. Though many prophetic voices stumbled after the contested 2020 election, the central prophecy of Trump’s leadership endures. For Christians, this is a moment to rejoice and reaffirm our faith in the power of prayer.

While Trump’s victory is significant, the work is far from over. The forces arrayed against him—both political and spiritual—remain as determined as ever. These forces seek to undermine biblical values, promote ungodly lifestyles and dismantle the moral fabric of our society. As their efforts intensify, so must our commitment to prayer and spiritual warfare.

History shows the power of collective prayer in shaping our nation’s destiny. The 1980 March for Jesus, for example, is widely believed to have played a role in President Ronald Reagan’s election. Similarly, events like the “Esther Call on the Mall,” led by Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, demonstrate the impact of spiritual gatherings. During this solemn assembly on the Day of Atonement, symbolic acts—such as the smashing of a satanic altar—brought breakthroughs in the spiritual realm. What began as prayer is now manifesting in the natural world.

As Steve Deace, a prominent conservative commentator, recently observed, “If the Trump presidency succeeds, Trump will be the generational tipping point for the Right throughout the West, not just America. If it fails, it could very well be the final time any real opposition from the Right is entrusted by the people in our lifetimes—and perhaps the end of Western civilization as we know it.”

These stakes could not be higher. As believers, we must rise to the occasion. This means committing to prayer for our president, for our nation and for the battles ahead. We must work as though the outcome depends on us, but pray as though it depends on God. Trump’s inauguration is not just a political event—it is a spiritual milestone. Together, let us continue to stand in prayer, trusting that God will guide and sustain this nation through the challenges to come.
