Prophetic Word: There Is a Place for You in God’s House

As we were worshipping in church on Sunday, we sang the song “Who You Say I Am” by Hillsong Worship. Within the song are these lines:

“In my Father’s house/ There’s a place for me/ I am a child of God, yes, I am.”

There was such a powerful anointing on these words, and it brought me back to a word that the Lord had given to me during 2020. This verse reiterated the Father’s heart that all His children would know that they have a place in His house.

The Father is reminding us of two keys at the moment. First, our identity: We are His children, and we need to stand and declare “I am a child of God, yes, I am.” This is vital in the current climate that we find ourselves in. Second, we need to understand who God is. He is our Father, and He makes room for us—don’t doubt your calling, He is making room for you as any Father would for a beloved child. His home is your home.

He is removing ceilings that have kept you hindered. Recently we renovated one of the rooms in our house, this included removing the old ceiling. As I stood in the room looking up through the now exposed rafters, the Spirit said “I am removing ceilings.”

For those who have felt confined by existing structures, this is a season where God is removing the boundaries that have limited you. You are about to find that you are able to move into new areas that you thought you could not. God is removing the obstacles and rebuilding to accommodate the expansion He has prepared you for.

Your old ceiling is about to become your new floor. Following on from this, during a recent Bible study, I came to a section on “building.” God began to speak to me about floors and ceilings. He showed me a picture of a cross-section of a house. I could see some people on the first level of the house, some on the second level and so forth. The Holy Spirit whispered “What is one person’s ceiling is another’s floor.”

I had a sense that many people have been in a “first floor room” who thought that was where they were meant to reside. However, through circumstances or people, these people have felt pushed out or unwelcome in this room or area.

They believe they don’t belong, and they have headed for the front door because it appears to be the only option. They feel disillusioned and disappointed. If this is you, before you depart, I urge you to remember whose house you are in.

In multi-story homes, the stairway is often positioned next to the front door for ease of access to other levels.

Here is where you choose. You can exit out the door, or you can pivot and look up the staircase to the next level. Here you will find Jesus beckoning you to come up to Him.

If we get pushed out of an area, either by circumstances or people, it is not the end of the story with Jesus. Rather, Jesus will use this to bring you up to a new “level” and a place of increase. Your old ceiling is now your new floor.

When we are territorial in the kingdom of God, we end up creating a ceiling on own experience with God. Holding onto a position or area and not allowing others in it keeps us tethered to one area or room. We are too busy protecting our patch, and we can develop a survival at all costs attitude. All the while, the Father’s heart is that all His children would move freely around His whole house.

If this speaks to you, we have all been there. Ask God to forgive you and set you free from the fear that drives this behavior. Rest in the knowledge that it is His house, and He has a place for you because He loves you.

Romans 8:28 (NIV) tells us that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” God works in all circumstances to bring about good for you.

When Solomon built the temple, the temple was designed such that as it went up in levels the space became larger (1 Kings 6:6). Don’t lament the loss of one room when you have the whole of the Father’s house to explore. The higher you go with God, following His lead through His house, you find wider expanses before you than you ever imagined.

Leave behind the past and see what Jesus has for you in this new increase. There are new levels and new experiences to be had with Him.

Remember Jesus’ words to his disciples in John 14:2 (NLT): “There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?”

God has a place for you in His house. Stand upon His word to you regarding your identity (child of God) and your calling (place in His house). {eoa}
