    Christian Music Pioneer Dana Key Mourned

    Christian music industry observers are expressing sadness upon hearing of the death of pioneer Dana Key, who with Eddie DeGarmo formed the first Christian group with a video broadcast on MTV.

    Key died Sunday from a ruptured pulmonary embolism, according to his label, Ardent Records.

    Key recorded a dozen albums as part of the Dove Award-winning duo DeGarmo & Key, and the pair wrote more than 40 Top 10 radio singles. Key founded ForeFront Records, and in 1995 helped launch the Christian rock Ardent Records and produced such artists as Big Tent Revival, Smalltown Poets and Skillet.

    NIV to Be Revised, TNIV Phased Out

    The New International Version (NIV)--the world's best-selling Bible translation--will be revised for the first time in 25 years, while the controversial Today's New International Version (TNIV) is to be phased out after the revision.

    The major development was announced earlier this week by Zondervan--which publishes both the NIV and TNIV--the Committee on Bible Translation (CBT) and Biblica, holder of the NIV copyright. With more than 300 million copies sold since its first publication in 1978, the NIV will be updated to reflect changes in English usage and advances in biblical scholarship.

    MercyMe Expresses Heartache About Fatal Crash

    MercyMe was scheduled to perform Monday night in Wisconsin after canceling Saturday's show in St. Louis because of a fatal accident involving the band's tour bus, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

    MercyMe was leaving Fort Wayne, Ind., where they had performed Friday, when a car carrying several teenagers cut in front of their bus, causing the collision. The wreck killed all three of the teens in the car and the pregnant driver's unborn baby.
