A bizarre discovery outside an Illinois United Methodist Church has federal aviation officials searching for answers.
Staff members at Noah’s Ark Christian Academy were conducting security checks Monday morning when they discovered a large piece of metal outside United Methodist Church on Algonquin Road in Barrington, Illinois.
According to ABC7 Chicago, police responded after discovering the object around 8:30 a.m. A responding officer estimated the debris measured about 3 feet by 4 feet and said it could have come from an aircraft.
The Federal Aviation Administration is now investigating.
Exactly what the object is, where it came from and how it ended up on church grounds remain unanswered.
The strange discovery comes as aviation stories have generated some extraordinary headlines in recent weeks.
As Charisma previously reported, the saga surrounding American Airlines Flight 618 continues after bestselling author and Messianic rabbi Jonathan Cahn was allegedly attacked aboard the Sept. 3 Dallas-to-Newark flight.

Passenger Arthur Layne Lundeen, 67, was restrained with duct tape and zip ties after the midair confrontation, which forced the aircraft to divert to Baltimore. Lundeen has since been federally charged with interfering with flight crew members and assault, and his next court date was postponed until Nov. 16.
But this latest aviation mystery did not unfold 30,000 feet in the air. It showed up on the grounds of a United Methodist church.
The United Methodist denomination has also remained in the headlines recently.
Just days ago, Charisma reported that Highland Park United Methodist Church, a Dallas congregation with more than 15,000 members, was weighing whether to sever ties with the UMC as its legal battle with the Horizon Texas Conference continues to mount.
In a most unusual way, this latest incident brings together two subjects that have repeatedly made headlines in one particularly strange scene.
For now, the mystery remains.
