What if the world is covered in mysteries yet to be solved?

Speaking with Steven Bartlett on The Diary of a CEO, Graham Hancock recently shared what could be one of his most intriguing interviews yet.

“I’m here to communicate about the possibility of a major forgotten episode in human history,” Hancock said. “I’m talking about a lost civilization.”

Hancock’s central argument is that civilization may not have begun roughly 6,000 years ago as traditionally taught. Instead, he believes evidence points to an advanced Ice Age culture that existed before a catastrophic event approximately 12,800 years ago.

A major pillar of Hancock’s theory is the Younger Dryas Impact Hypothesis, which proposes that fragments of a disintegrating comet struck Earth at the end of the last Ice Age. While the hypothesis remains debated among scientists, Hancock argues it offers an explanation for what he says could be dramatic climate shifts and widespread extinctions that occurred during that period.

He also highlighted archaeological discoveries such as Göbekli Tepe in Turkey, a massive megalithic site dating back more than 11,000 years. Hancock believes such discoveries challenge conventional assumptions about when sophisticated human organization first emerged.

Perhaps most intriguing was Hancock’s discussion of the Great Pyramid of Giza. He argued that the monument contains advanced astronomical and geodetic knowledge that should not have been available within the conventional historical timeline. Hancock suggested such knowledge may have been inherited from a much older civilization whose story has largely been forgotten.

Throughout the interview, Hancock repeatedly returned to one central idea: humanity may know far less about its own history than it assumes.

Yet perhaps the most compelling part of Hancock’s message was not his speculation about the past, but his concern for the future.

Drawing parallels between ancient floods and today’s world, Hancock warned that modern civilization may be repeating the same mistakes attributed to lost cultures.

“When I look at our civilization today,” Hancock said, “I see a civilization that ticks all the…boxes for the next lost civilization.”

Hancock argued that humanity’s greatest threat may not be a comet, natural disaster or external enemy, but the darkness within itself.

“If we’re so psychologically messed up as a species,” he said, “we’ll probably end up doing it to ourselves.”

Whether one agrees with Hancock’s conclusions about a forgotten Ice Age civilization or not, his warning echoes a truth found throughout Scripture: pride has a way of preceding destruction.

From the days of Noah to the Tower of Babel, the Bible repeatedly shows what happens when humanity becomes convinced it no longer needs God.

Jesus Himself warned that the conditions surrounding His return would resemble “the days of Noah” (Matt. 24:37), a generation marked by spiritual blindness, moral complacency and a refusal to heed God’s warnings. The apostle Paul likewise cautioned that people would become “lovers of self” and “lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God” (2 Tim. 3:1-5).

Hancock fears humanity could destroy itself through its own arrogance and division. Scripture points to an even deeper problem: the human heart apart from God. Technology, knowledge and progress can accomplish remarkable things, but they cannot cure humanity’s spiritual condition.

Civilizations continue to rise and fall, but God’s truth remains unchanged. The question is not merely whether humanity has forgotten part of its history. The greater question may be whether it has forgotten the God who stands outside of time—and who continues to call people to repentance, humility and faith before it is too late.
