Washington, D.C. — In a decisive display of strength and strategic restraint, President Donald Trump announced late Tuesday that the United States is suspending planned military attacks on Iranian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, for two weeks, just hours before his firm 8 p.m. ET deadline that had threatened to bring overwhelming force against the regime.

Trump made the announcement on Truth Social, stating the pause comes at the request of Pakistani intermediaries and is explicitly conditioned on Iran’s “COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING” of the Strait of Hormuz, the critical chokepoint for global oil supplies that Tehran has effectively closed amid the ongoing conflict.

Trump’s full statement on Truth Social reads:

“Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks.

“This will be a double sided CEASEFIRE! The reason for doing so is that we have already met and exceeded all Military objectives, and are very far along with a definitive Agreement concerning Longterm PEACE with Iran, and PEACE in the Middle East. We received a 10 point proposal from Iran, and believe it is a workable basis on which to negotiate. Almost all of the various points of past contention have been agreed to between the United States and Iran, but a two week period will allow the Agreement to be finalized and consummated.

“On behalf of the United States of America, as President, and also representing the Countries of the Middle East, it is an Honor to have this Longterm problem close to resolution. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP”

The decision to withhold strikes comes after weeks of escalating tensions in the U.S.-Israel campaign against Iran, which began in late February.

Trump had issued repeated ultimatums, warning that failure to reopen the strait and reach a deal would result in the destruction of Iranian power plants, bridges and other targets, rhetoric that underscored America’s unmatched military superiority and unwillingness to tolerate Iranian aggression that has disrupted global energy markets and endangered U.S. interests.

Earlier Tuesday, Trump had issued stark warnings, stating that without compliance, “a whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again.” His profanity-laced messages to Tehran’s leadership emphasized that “Power Plant Day” and strikes on bridges were imminent if demands were ignored. Yet rather than rushing into broader destruction, the President chose to leverage America’s position of strength to extract concessions and advance long-term peace.

Many have praised the decision as classic Trump leadership: maximum pressure yielding results without unnecessary entanglement.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil passes in normal times, has been a flashpoint. Iran’s closure has spiked energy prices and threatened the global economy. Reopening it under verifiable, safe conditions would mark a major victory for American interests, stabilizing markets and reasserting U.S. naval dominance in the region.

Iran’s national security council confirmed the temporary agreement, framing it as a pause while talks continue in Islamabad on Friday. Initial reports indicate some vessel movement may be resuming, though full normalization remains the goal.

The coming days will test whether Iran’s leadership recognizes reality or continues its path of defiance. For now, Trump’s calculated restraint keeps the pressure on while prioritizing American security, economic stability, and the possibility of a broader Middle East peace.
