In Judges 6:36–40, we find a powerful and very human moment in the life of Gideon. God had already spoken. The call was clear. The promise was given. Yet Gideon still asked for confirmation — not once, but twice.
He laid out a fleece before the Lord and said, in essence, “If this is really You, confirm it.” First, he asked for dew only on the fleece and not on the ground. Then he reversed it — dew on the ground but not on the fleece. And God graciously answered both times.
What stands out to me is not doubt — but relationship.
Gideon wasn’t rebelling. He wasn’t testing God in arrogance. He was stepping into something that felt far bigger than him. He needed reassurance. And God, in His patience and kindness, met him there.
Sometimes we act as though asking for confirmation is a lack of faith. But Scripture shows us something deeper: God understands our humanity. When our desire is obedience — not control — He is faithful to guide us clearly.

There is a difference between demanding a sign in unbelief and asking for confirmation in humility.
If you are facing a big decision, a calling that feels overwhelming or a step that requires courage — it is okay to ask the Lord for clarity. He is not intimidated by your questions. He is not offended by your need for reassurance. He delights in leading His children.
The key is posture.
Ask with a surrendered heart. Ask willing to obey. Ask not to avoid His will, but to walk confidently in it.
The same God who answered Gideon still speaks. He still confirms. And He is faithful to steady the hearts of those who truly want to follow Him.
